On Friday, India has reported 2,51,209 fresh cases of Covid-19 infections, taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases, as per the Union Health Ministry's data update. As per the ministry, the daily positivity rate stands at 15.88 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate is at 17.47 per cent. At present, the country's active caseload stands at 21,05,611. With 3,47,443 recoveries being recorded in the last 24 hours, the total recoveries have increased to 3,80,24,771.
Meeting with Health Minister
As reported by ANI, "Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to chair a high-level virtual meeting with the health ministers of southern states and UTs this afternoon, to review the Covid situation and protocols in the region. The health ministers of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Telangana, Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be present at the meeting.
Decision on School reopening
With the Covid-19 vaccination drive for children aged 15 gathering pace, the Centre is likely to issue an advisory soon to reopen schools across the country. Sources have said that, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya has asked the National Expert Group to suggest ways and work on modalities to open schools nationwide.
Restrictions extended
The Union Home Ministry on Thursday extended the existing COVID-19 containment measures till February 28 in view of the wave of infections, driven by the Omicron variant, still raging and 407 districts reporting a positivity rate of over 10 per cent, reported PTI.
