On Friday, India has reported 4,194 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 255 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the health ministry at 8am. Meanwhile, the active Covid-19 cases in the country have declined to 42,219. The death toll due to the viral infection has reached to 5,15,714, said the health ministry.
As per the ministry, the total recoveries in the country have reached 4,24,26,328 including 6,208 recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours.
European Countries to remove travel restrictions
Airlines and airports called on Friday for an end to pandemic measures for European domestic flights as most countries in the region begin to relax requirements to present proof of vaccination and wear masks. "As European countries open up and remove restrictions, it is only logical to remove similar restrictions from air transport," said a joint statement from ACI Europe and IATA, reported news agency AFP.
Covid-19 in Delhi
On Thursday, Delhi has reported 212 fresh Covid-19 cases and no deaths, while the positivity rate stood at 0.56 per cent, said the city health department's data.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccinations in Delhi have slowed down further with just over 30,000 doses administered on Wednesday. An average of 36,400 shots was administered over the three days this week as compared to 35,200 on average each day last week, barring Sunday.
India's Covid deaths data is the highest, says Lancet
As per a study published in the Lancet, India’s Covid-19 deaths were majorly under-reported and as per the estimates, up to the end of 2021 India had the highest number of cumulative excess deaths in the world at 4.07 million deaths.
