On Thursday, as per the data updated by Union Health Ministry, India's daily Covid-19 cases has increased to 43,263 whereas fresh fatalities have dropped to 338. Total cases have reached to 33,139,981 including 32,304,618 total recoveries, 441,749 total deaths and 393,614 total active cases. 

"5,36,817,243 samples tested for Covid-19 up to 8 September 2021. 1,817,639 samples tested on 8 September 2021", said Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). On Wednesday, Mumbai has seen a hike in daily Covid-19 cases beyond 500 for the first time ever since July 15. Cases in Maharashtra have increased to 4,174, due to the hike in cases in Mumbai and Nashik. The surge in Mumbai with 532 Covid-19 positive cases comes after cases decreased to the year’s lowest 196 on August 17. 

However, a report by Times of India quoted, "BMC officials as saying the higher numbers could be the result of more people testing themselves for Covid before travelling out of town for the 10-day Ganpati festival which begins on Friday." 

On Wednesday, Delhi has recorded 41 fresh Covid-19 positive cases with 0 fatalities. The positivity rate is at 0.05% and currently there are 414 active cases now. "No Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will be allowed in public places in Delhi due to Covid-19 restrictions and the ban on religious/social/cultural and political gatherings in the city", said the Delhi Disaster Management Authority.
