Covid Updates: India reports 7,447 fresh cases

India has reported 7,447 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, India has reported 7,447 new Covid-19 cases including 391 fresh fatalities and 7,886 recoveries in the last 24 hours, said the health ministry's data update. The death toll in the country has reached to 4,76,869. The active cases currently stand at 86,415, which account for 0.25% of the total cases. The total recovery count in the country has increased to 3,41,62,765. Currently, the recovery rate stands at 98.38%. The country has administered 135.99 crore vaccine doses till date. 


Omicron Cases 

On Thursday, India has reported 14 fresh Omicron cases, pushing the tally of highly infectious coronavirus variant contracting patients in the country to 87. Karnataka reported five new cases, whereas, Delhi and Telangana logged four each and Gujarat recorded one case. 

Vaccinated Delhi 

As per the CoWIN portal, "over 2.46 crore doses have been administered in the city since the inoculation exercise started on January 16. As many as 1,00,20,014 people have received both doses. Over 1.08 lakh people were vaccinated against COVID-19 in Delhi on Thursday. Authorities in Northwest Delhi district have administered the maximum number of doses (over 29 lakh) in the capital, followed by Southwest Delhi (28.69 lakh) and West Delhi (26.57 lakh). In view of the threat posed by the Omicron variant of coronavirus, the authorities have increased the pace of vaccination in Delhi over the last few weeks." 

Zydus Vaccine against Covid-19 

Zydus Healthcare’s vaccine against Covid-19, ZyCoV-D, is all set to be introduced during the national vaccination programme by next week, Hindustan Times reported. “The training of vaccinators who would be administering the shots is nearly complete and the vaccine could be introduced very soon; likely by next week,” said a person aware of the matter on condition of anonymity.
