On Monday, India has reported 8,306 new cases along with 8,834 recoveries in the last 24 hours, said the data updated by the Union ministry of health and family welfare. The country's active caseload now stands at 98,416, which is the lowest in 552 days.
Till date, a total of 127.93 crore vaccine doses have been administered in India under Nationwide Vaccination Drive. The daily positivity was recorded at 0.94 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 0.78 per cent.
India's Omicron infections rises to 21
On Sunday, seventeen new cases were detected. People who tested positive either recently arrived from African countries or were in contact with such people. Officials said that several contacts of the new cases are under surveillance and have been isolated. On people arriving from abroad, the central government has put in place strict travel restrictions, especially from countries identified as ‘at risk’.
Singapore health ministry: Omicron has higher risk of reinfection than Delta
Singapore's Ministry of Health has said that early clinical observations globally suggest that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 may be more transmissible and have a higher risk of reinfection compared to the Delta and Beta variants of the virus.
On Sunday, Channel News Asia quoted the ministry, the ministry said, "This means that there is a higher likelihood of individuals who have recovered from Covid-19 to be re-infected with the Omicron variant."
