On Thursday, India has reported 9,419 fresh Covid-19 cases, 159 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the Health Ministry. With 8,251 recoveries in the last 24 hours the total number of recoveries to 3,40,97,388, said the Health ministry. At present, India's recovery rate stands at 98.36% which is the highest since March 2020. Country's death count has reached to 4,74,111. The active caseload currently stands at 94,742, said the government.
"We may see a Omicron wave, but it will not be as devastating as in other countries. India is in a better position because the maximum population has already got infected and vaccinated. India also has generated hybrid immunity," said Padmanabha Shenoy, MD at CARE Hospital, Kochi.
WHO's warning: “We can prevent Omicron becoming a global crisis,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a briefing on Wednesday. “This virus is changing, but our collective resolve must not", as reported by Bloomberg.
Thane
Thane has reported 121 new cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,70,177, an official said on Thursday. These new cases were recorded on Wednesday, he said. No new death due to the virus was reported in the district and the toll remained unchanged at 11,590, he said, adding that the COVID-19 mortality rate stood at 2.03 per cent.
Gujarat
On Wednesday, Gujarat reported 67 new cases of coronavirus, taking the infection tally to 8,27,873, with no fresh fatality due to the disease, said the Health Department. A release by the department said the tally of recoveries rose to 8,17,361 after 22 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day.
Assam
On Wednesday, Assam reported no Covid-19 deaths, 134 new cases pushed the tally to 6,18,042, the National Health Mission bulletin said. The number of positive cases detected during the day declined to 134 as against the previous day’s 150 with the positivity rate falling to 0.41 per cent from 0.45 percent on Tuesday.
