On Friday, May 6, India registered 3,525 fresh cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of infections to 4,30,94,938, as per the data updated by the Union Health Ministry. Currently, the active caseload in the nation stands at 19,688, said the ministry.
With 27 fresh fatalities, the death toll in the country has reached 5,24,002, the ministry said. In the last 24 hours, the country reported 3,500 fresh recoveries, taking the total tally of recoveries from Covid-19 to 4,25,51,248.
The national recovery rate stands at 98.74 percent. In the last 10 days, the nation has registered more than 32,000 fresh infections of Covid-19. As per the ministry, the daily positivity rate in the country stands at 1.07 percent, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 0.70 percent.
Data released by WHO
On Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) said that in 2020 and 2021, more than 47.4 lakh people in India are killed by Covid-19, either due to direct infection or an indirect infection.
The statement issued by Government of India
In a statement, the Indian government said, "India has been consistently objecting to the methodology adopted by WHO to project excess mortality estimates based on mathematical models. Despite India's objection to the process, methodology, and outcome of this modeling exercise, WHO has released the excess mortality estimates without adequately addressing India's concerns."
Delhi
On Thursday, Delhi reported 1,365 fresh Covid-19 cases along with zero fresh fatality, the positivity rate standing at 6.35 percent, as per the city health department.
Maharashtra
In the last 24 hours, the state registered 233 fresh Covid-19 cases
