Covid Updates: Vaccination for Children aged 12-14 to begin Today

India has reported 2,876 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The vaccination process for children in the age group 12-14 years will begin today. Precautionary dose will be administered to 60 years and above people.

The war against Covid-19 epidemic is going on across the country. In this sequence, where the process of opening all schools across the country has started, an important phase is going to start from today under the Corona vaccination campaign. In this, the first dose of corona vaccine will be given to children aged 12 to 14 years. According to the Health Ministry, children born between 2008 and 2010 will be vaccinated in this phase. The population of children eligible for vaccination in this age group is about 7.11 crore. All people above 60 years will take booster dose. 


Children will be vaccinated with Corbevax 

On Monday, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced to initiate the vaccination drive for children in the country. In this phase, children will be administered with dose of Corbevax vaccine developed by Hyderabad-based Biological E company. With this, all the people above 60 years of age in the country will be given precautionary dose. Earlier this dose was given to people suffering from serious diseases of this age group. 

Fresh cases of Covid-19 in India 

On Wednesday, India has reported 2,876 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 98 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry. With this, the death toll in the country has reached to 5,16,072. 


The total active Covid cases in the country have declined to 32,811, which is 0.08 per cent of the total cases. With 3,884 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the recovery rate in India has increased to 98.72 per cent, said the ministry. 

The daily positivity rate has reached to 0.38 per cent, whereas the weekly positivity rate stands at 0.44 per cent.
