Delhi-NCR: Daily Covid Cases shoot up, Schools May Close

In the national capital, the daily cases of Covid-19 are soaring up. In view of the rising cases, the Delhi government has issued an advisory for schools.

On Thursday, Delhi reported 325 fresh Covid-19 cases, which is the highest single-day jump in the last 40 days, said the State Health Department. The positivity rate in the national capital has reached 2.39 percent, said the health bulletin.  As per the bulletin, on Thursday, the total tally of Covid-19 cases in Delhi has climbed to 18,67,206 while the death toll remained at 26,158.

As per the state health bulletin, on Thursday, 44 fresh cases have been reported in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Medical Officer Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma said, "Of the new cases, 15 children were found positive. None of these children were reported from any school."

Schools can shut down if they have Covid cases 

On Thursday, the Delhi government issued a fresh advisory for the schools. As per the advisory, schools are directed to shut down their entire premises or specific wings temporarily if anybody gets infected from Covid-19. 

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has advised all the students and staff to maintain social distancing and wear masks. The advisory said, "If any Covid case is noticed or reported to the school authority the same must be intimated to the Directorate of Education immediately and the concerned wing of the school or the school as a whole may be, must be closed down for time being." 

Masks to be mandated again 

In order to review the Covid-19 situation in the national capital, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will conduct a meeting on April 20. With cases rising on a daily basis it is expected that the protocol of wearing masks will be mandated again.
