According to a civic report released on October 25, over 1,000 instances of dengue fever have been confirmed in the national capital this year, with more than 300 new cases registered in the last week.
So far this month, 665 dengue cases have been reported in Delhi, bringing the overall number of infections this season to 665.
In the recent two weeks, the city has seen an increase in cases of the vector-borne disease, with the first death in Delhi occurring on October 18.
Mamta Kashyap, a resident of Sarita Vihar in south Delhi, was identified as the dead. She was around 35 years old. She died of dengue fever in a private hospital here in late September.
According to a civic report on vector-borne diseases released on October 25, one dengue death and 1,006 dengue cases were documented this season until October 23, the greatest number of cases since the same period in 2018.
This year's overall number of cases was 723, as of October 16th. So far, 283 new instances have been reported in just one week.
According to the study, the number of instances reported from January 1 to October 16 in the previous three years was 489 (2020), 833 (2019), and 1,310 (2018).
According to the report released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the key agency for tabulating statistics on vector-borne diseases in the city, there were 1,072 cases and one death in the entire year of 2020.
According to the SDMC's official tally, the number of deaths attributable to dengue in the years leading up to 2020 was two (2019), four (2018), ten (2017), and ten (2016).
The 665 cases documented so far in October are far and by the greatest number of cases reported in a single month this year.
This season, 217 cases were reported in September, the highest number in the prior three years.
