Do You Have Audible Breathing ? What Cause it? Home Remedies Help to Stop Noisy Breath or Wheezing

Wheezing is a high-pitched whistling sound which occurs when you breathe in or out and is caused due to tightening of airways. This is not life threatening but you should consult a doctor, if you experience symptoms like chest pain, trouble breathing etc.

 Wheezing occurs for many reasons like allergies, infection, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heart failure, lung cancer or swelling or inflammation in the airways. 

This also occurs commonly in people who smokes frequently. Controlling smoke may help improve breathing. 

This condition needs to be treated immediately if you experience symptoms like trouble breathing, bluish tint on skin, chest pain,  swollen throat or dizziness, as if left untreated can become problematic. 

Anti-inflammatory or bronchodilators are given to these people as a treatment options, which are quick-acting and relax the smooth muscles that surrounded the breathing tubes. 

Alternative Remedies For Wheezing

Many home remedies are there that help to relieve wheezing. Some of them are as given below:

Keep the environment Warm and Humid: Staying in such environment can open up your airways and thus help to breath more easily. 

Drink warm liquids: Warm liquids like herbal tea, ginger tea or even warm water, may help to break deposited mucus in the windpipe, which help to relieve congestion. 

Steam: Steam as use of humidifier at home or steamy shower can help loosen up congestion and mucus in your airways, making it easier to breath. It is also important to ensure to avoid the dry, hot air of a sauna.

Complementary medicines: Supplements, herbs, antioxidants like vitamin C and E, ginkgo biloba help to reduce asthma induced wheezing.  According to the previous research, it was found that vitamin C may have protective effect on the respiratory system. 

More fruits and vegetables Intake: As per the study, foods which are rich in vitamin C, D and E, appear more effective for those having wheezing problem. 

Add some of the following foods which are rich in vitamin C are spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, bell peppers and oranges. Foods high in vitamins D are dairy products, red meat, oily fish, such as swordfish or salmon and egg yolks. Foods rich in vitamin E includes sunflower seeds almonds spinach and peanut butter

Quit smoking: This is the most important measure one should take, if you wants to be relieved from wheezing, as it cause irritation in your airways and can lead to serious conditions like chronic bronchitis.

Try pursed lip breathing: Pursed lip breathing is a technique for slowing the rate of breathing and making each breath more effective by keeping the airways open longer. This reduces the shortness of breath and thus wheezing problems. 

No exercise in cold and dry weather: It is recommended not to exercise in dry and cold weather, as it can cause their airways to tighten..

The bottom line

Wheezing happens when your airways tightens or narrow, usually occurs due to an illness or any underlying condition. It’s important to seek doctor if you’re wheezing are associated to breathing problem. Along with the standard treatment given by a doctor, you can also try using home remedies which help to reduce your wheezing and shortness of breath.
