Many research reported that ageing, unhealthy lifestyle and overweight leads to many metabolic syndrome like type 2 diabetes mellitus, coronary arterial diseases and depression. It is also said that Age is a important factor for Type-2 Diabetes.
Diabetes, also called diabetes mellitus or type 2 diabetes, is the common occurring disease in older aged people. It is chronic disease, which increases the sugar level in the blood. This occurs because body loose its ability to respond insulin, a hormone that help glucose to enter the cells of the body and used for energy.
The risk of diabetes (type 2 diabetes) increases with age, following other reasons also. People of older age are found to be at higher risk of type 2 diabetes, due to the effects of increasing insulin resistance and reduced function of pancreatic islet. There are also many factors which leads to cause insulin resistance in aged people like decrease in body mass and obesity increase in body fat mainly in visceral adiposity, which accompanies aging, contribute to the development of resistance in insulin. The other factor which increase the risk of diabetes includes:
•Reduced physical activity
•Overweight and
•Decreased muscle mass (sarcopenia)
Type 2 diabetes are mostly occur in those who depends on factors like

Research found that more than 25% of the population in U.S. who are above 65 years have diabetes and in Australia also, one in 6 people with an age of 65 years or above reported diabetes. The incidence of diabetes seems to be increased in people who are at the age of 65 years or above. As per CDC, the risk of diabetes are different in different age group people.

Because the number of people with diabetes are increasing and diabetes are associated with increased risk of multiple disorder either new or pre-existing. Preventive measures should be taken like to attend programs, which provides certain information related to awareness on diabetes control. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), informed about changing lifestyle like diet, which is evaluated as the most effective point in the older people with diabetes aged over 60 years. Also said that regular physical activity is really beneficial to prevent obesity and sarcopenia, which in turn improves insulin response.
Dealing with the old age people and telling them about the management of their disease is very important, as type-2-diabetes, are really common in older age people. It’s important to tell them about numerous factors related to their therapy, engagement to treatment process like to do injection, sugar test etc. It not only improve their quality of life, but also gives them motivational support.
