The 2025 Grammy Awards was a grand celebration of the best in music, bringing together some of the most influential artists of the year. Among the most notable moments of the night was Beyoncé’s groundbreaking win for Cowboy Carter in the Best Country Album category. Presenting the award was Taylor Swift, who had previously won Best Country Album herself just two years ago. Beyoncé's victory marked a historic milestone, as she became the first Black woman in 50 years to win in this category. During her acceptance speech, she boldly stated, “I think genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about.”
Chappell Roan, who was honored with the Best New Artist award, delivered an impassioned speech that earned her a standing ovation. “I told myself, if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and health care, especially to developing artists,” she said. She ended her speech with a call to action, “Labels — we got you, but do you got us?”
