In yet another blow to consumers already reeling from petrol and diesel price hikes, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) raised compressed natural gas (CNG) prices by Rs 2 per kg across Delhi and the National Capital Region effective 6:00 AM on May 15, 2026.
The new CNG price in Delhi is now Rs 79.09 per kg. Rates in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad have gone up to Rs 87.70 per kg, while Gurugram stands at Rs 84.12 per kg. Similar hikes were implemented by other city gas distributors like Mahanagar Gas in Mumbai.
The revision comes days after oil marketing companies increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per liter, driven by soaring global crude oil prices above $100-120 per barrel due to ongoing West Asian conflicts and supply concerns. Higher costs of imported natural gas have forced IGL to pass on the burden to consumers.
This successive fuel price hike is expected to impact auto-rickshaw, taxi, and cab fares in Delhi-NCR, increasing daily commuting costs for millions. It will also raise operational expenses for commercial vehicles and indirectly affect goods transportation.
IGL, which supplies CNG to a large chunk of Delhi-NCR, had kept prices stable for several months before this adjustment. Consumers and transport unions have expressed concern over the cumulative impact on household budgets amid already high inflation pressures.
