Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has issued a "banthanguru vina" (warning) on this backdrop of party bailouts and political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu headed by Vijay, actor-turned-politician. All 107 TVK MLAs will resign if the DMK or AIADMK tries to form the government, party officials say.
The single biggest party in the 2026 Assembly elections was TVK, which won 108 seats—including two won by him himself—but was not able to meet the 118-seat mark to acquire a majority. Thus, DMK has won 59 and AIADMK 47 seats.
The party has said that it deserves to be the first party to prove majority status. The threat comes as negotiations after the elections go on, and the governor has yet to ask any party to form a government.
The dramatic action has ratcheted up political tensions and might lead to a new round of instability if employed. The warning seems to indicate the party's formidable strength and dismay at having been outmaneuvered by the single largest party, according to TVK insiders. The next few days will be critical to Tamil Nadu's political destiny.
