The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru has apprehended five individuals suspected of planning a dangerous attack in the city. The arrested accused, identified as Suhail, Omar, Zahid, Mudasir, and Faisal, are aged between 25 and 35. Surprisingly, these individuals were previously arrested in 2017 and served 18 months in prison in connection with a murder case before being released in 2019.
Elusive Mastermind Junaid Evades Capture, Allegedly Supplied Arms and Explosives
While the five suspects have been apprehended, the alleged mastermind behind the plot, Junaid, remains elusive. Previously residing in RT Nagar area of Bengaluru, Junaid is now believed to have settled abroad. Investigations have revealed that he was responsible for supplying arms and explosives to the arrested individuals.
Connection with Imprisoned Terrorist and Search for Junaid Continues
During the interrogation, the arrested suspects disclosed their connection with T Nazeer, an imprisoned terrorist currently serving time in Bengaluru Central Jail (Parappana Agrahara). T Nazeer was linked to the 2008 serial blast case in Bengaluru. Law enforcement agencies are diligently searching for Junaid, who is also connected to the 2017 murder case, and coordinating efforts with central agencies to track him down.
Concerns Over Radicalization in Correctional Facilities
The alleged radicalization of prisoners in Karnataka has raised concerns about correctional facilities potentially becoming breeding grounds for terrorists. With the involvement of T Nazeer and the influence he exerted on the arrested individuals, authorities are now focusing on tightening security measures within prisons to prevent further radicalization and thwart potential terror plots.
