On April 4-5, 2026, the 26-second video update by Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced the accelerating development and futuristic design of the New Delhi Railway Station redevelopment project. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is variously changing the station into a world-class multimodal transport station.

The main highlights of the construction were the construction of two new station buildings (one on each side of the Paharganj and Ajmeri entrances), which had a total constructed area of about 110,000 sqm. There will be a grand air-conditioned concourse and arrival and departure plazas. The waiting areas will be spacious, the lifts will be 82, the escalators will be 52, and there will be a smooth vertical movement between the people.

The redeveloped station will accommodate 10 lakh passengers per day as compared to the 4-5 lakh passengers today. To further improve the security, 1,500 cameras will be equipped with AI and access control of staff and vendors with the help of QRs and ID jackets. A higher road network and increased connectivity with the metro and bus services are also on the agenda.

The development of the project is being fulfilled at a very rapid rate, and the busiest railway station in India will get an opportunity to travel modern, safe, and without congestion.
