The results of exit polls conducted after the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections (WB) 2026 on April 29 have been mixed, resulting in political debate.
The BJP is set to make a historic sweep of the poll, with two of the major exit polls, namely P-MARQ and Matrize, giving the ruling party a clear victory in the 294-member Assembly by winning between 146 and 175 seats, surpassing the majority threshold of 148. Other polls like Praja Poll and Chanakya Strategies, as well, favored BJP over TMC.
But the People's Pulse exit poll defied the poll trend and predicted the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC would win 177-187 seats, while the BJP would only win 95-110 seats.
The conflicting forecasts have added to the anticipation ahead of the final results to be announced on May 4. BJP leaders said that anti-incumbency against TMC will help them get power for the first time, while TMC accused those polls showing an unfavorable opinion of TMC as unreliable.
The state's politics has seen the most fiercely contested battle.
