Barh, Bihar: An unfortunate and preventable accident left a 35-year-old man known as Mithilesh Yadav dead when he was struck by the Patna-Howrah Vande Bharat Express in the Barh railway station on Tuesday morning.
Railway police and witnesses claimed that the victim had moved so near platform 2's edge to spit khaini (chewing tobacco) because the semi-high-speed train was gaining high speed without slowing down and stopping at the station. Although the loco pilot tooted the horn many times and other passengers cautioned him, the man, in his attempt to lean too near the tracks, failed to move back in time.
The effect shot him back to the platform with debilitating wounds. He was taken to a local government hospital at once and then sent to Patna, where he died in the hospital in consequence of his injuries.
Danapar RPF Commandant Uday Singh Pawar verified this, stating that the man had gone too far over the edge. A video of the accident has become viral on social media, provoking extensive debates on the security of railway platforms and the dangers of carelessness on the tracks.
Train operators have once again advised rail users to keep a reasonable distance from the platform edges, particularly when a train is overspeeding past.
