The second serious security incident occurred on 25 February 2026 (almost 2.5 km) on railway lines near Sainthia Railway Station in the Birbhum district of West Bengal after a suspected bomb was reported. The notification, which was received in the afternoon, caused a hasty reaction of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), and the two rushed to the spot to investigate accordingly and secure the grounds.

The Eastern Expressway reports that the suspicious object was observed on tracks, and therefore authorities stopped train operations on one of the lines as a precautionary step. Trains were not allowed to pass the affected line so that bomb detection and dismantling teams could inspect the device to establish whether it was an improvised explosion or it was a hoax. It was reported with no injuries or damages, and it was a possible disaster, which was averted on time thanks to vigilance.

The passing out of several trains through the Sainthia section got diverted or delayed by the railway authorities, which was an inconvenience to the train passengers on the busy Howrah-Azimganj-Katwa line temporarily. The eastern railway area liaised with the local police, who then cordoned the area and searched it thoroughly.

This is happening amidst increased security fears on Indian trains and particularly in the sensitive areas. Research is being conducted to determine whether the object posed a veritable danger, a trash product, or a bigger plot. Authorities have also called on the masses to be wary of their surroundings and report any suspicious activities to them. By late February 25, the situation had returned to normal, but the incident overshadows the reality the security officers of the railways have to operate under every time in order to counter sabotage and guarantee safe travel in the extensive network found in India. Forensic examination is awaiting further additions as to what the device was about.
