In another landmark ruling, a court in Delhi topped the list of notable cases involving the impossibility of bailing a Youth Congress leader, Bhanu Pratap Singh, on February 28, 2026, regarding his involvement in the high-profile protest among the organizers of the India AI Impact Summit the previous month at Bharat Mandapam.

Bhanu Pratap and some other members of the Youth Congress were arrested on February 20, following a group of protesting demonstrators—it should be noted some were shirtless—who stormed the venue, held anti-government slogans, and tried to destabilize the proceedings by global technology leaders and dignitaries in attendance. The YCP protested on grounds of misuse of the populace's funds and failure of governance.

The accused was charged with the violations of the section of unlawful assembly, rioting, and voluntarily causing hurt to hinder the duty of the public servant, as well as criminal conspiracy (BNS sections that were the counterparts of old IPC 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, and 120B, among others). Delhi Police had resisted bail on the grounds of intentional desire to disrupt an international event and threat to VIP security.

The advice presented by Bhanu Pratap stated that he was making a democratic right to demonstrate peacefully, no severe harm has been inflicted, and he has been kept in custody for more than a week. They also brought along medical records indicating health-related issues in case they were stressed.

Upon the arguments, the Special Judge at Rouse Avenue Courts allowed regular bail to Bhanu Pratap on delivering a personal bond of 50000 and surety of 50000 each.

Conditions include:

  • Failure to leave NCR without the court's permission.
  • Not repeating similar acts
  • Enrolling in investigation when necessary.

The court noted that continued custody at this stage was not mandatory and the case could be taken to trial with the accused on bail.

The order was welcomed by the Youth Congress as the victory of truth and democracy, and the Delhi Police declared that they would discuss this order and challenge it in case of necessity. The case is still under investigation, as several other suspects are on interim bail or detained.

The episode had triggered a big political row, with the AAP accusing the Congress of hooliganism and the Congress of not allowing dissent. The bail offers relief to the opposition party before they will go to the polls in some states in the coming assembly.
