The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is a historic infrastructure development that will have a price tag exceeding 12,000 crore and will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14, 2026. It is a six-lane access-controlled expressway crossing a distance of about 210 km, which will severely enhance connectivity between India, western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Other important characteristics are the 100 km/h maximum speed limit on cars and a shorter travel time of 2.5 hours as compared to the present 6.5 hours. The highway originates near Akshardham Temple in Delhi and goes through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur and arrives at Dehradun.
Some of the significant infrastructure includes 7 interchanges, 2 rail overbridges (ROBs), 10 large bridges, and 14 wayside amenities contributing to increased convenience and safety. The best part of it is that it has the longest 12-km elevated wildlife corridor in Asia, vastly across the Rajaji National Park; two 200-meter-long elephant underpasses; and six animal passes that ensure that wildlife can safely move between them.
Other attractions are a tunnel that is close to the Daat Kali temple and spurs that link to Haridwar. When the expressway is operational, it will elevate tourism, diminish traffic on old highways, and enhance growth on the economic front of the territory.
