In anticipation of the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled for September 9 and 10, a series of measures have been put in place by the Delhi government. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the closure of all government, municipal corporation, and private offices, as well as schools, from September 8 to September 10. Additionally, banks, financial institutions, and shops will remain closed during this period. This decision comes in response to a recommendation made by the Delhi Police's Special Commissioner to alleviate potential traffic congestion and logistical challenges that may arise due to the arrival and departure of numerous delegates and dignitaries.

Delhi Police's Preparations and Traffic Management

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the overall success of the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police are leaving no stone unturned. As the summit will witness the participation of various world leaders including US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, and others, the police are making special arrangements for vehicular movement. A comprehensive mock drill was conducted by the Delhi traffic police to review diversion and restriction arrangements along major roads connecting the main summit venue, Pragati Maidan, with various hotels.

G20 Summit: Global Significance and Security Preparations

The G20 Summit is poised to bring together prominent figures, economic experts, and sector representatives to deliberate on global economic matters, cooperation, and policy coordination. As Delhi readies itself for this significant event, stringent security measures are being implemented. The Delhi Police have undergone specialized training in handling chemical and biological weapons, alongside honing their soft skills. Women commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit have completed a four-week training program conducted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, enhancing their readiness.

Enhanced Measures and Equipment Procurement

To bolster security, the Delhi Police have not only focused on training but also acquired specialized weaponry, ammunition, bulletproof jackets, and X-ray machines. With the eyes of the world on Delhi for the G20 Summit, the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the local government will play a pivotal role in ensuring the event's success.
