Delhi Govt imposes Weekend Curfew Amid rising Covid-19 Cases

As Covid-19 cases are surging in Delhi, weekend curfew has been imposed.

On Tuesday, Delhi government has announced to impose weekend curfew to curb recent surge in Covid-19 cases. As per the orders, all government services will be fully working from home in the national capital and private offices will be allowed to open with 50% staff. The DDMA conducted a meeting today under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. During the meeting, the current Covid-19 situation of the state was discussed. The DDMA officials told the PTI news agency, "Weekend curfew to be imposed in Delhi following spike in Covid-19 cases". It added that, “Government officials barring essential services to work from home in Delhi". 

Red Alert 

It is a possibility that the Delhi government might announce ‘red alert’ and total curfew will be imposed along with closure of nonessential shops, metro trains, government offices except those dealing with essential services. If the positivity rate stays above 5% for two consecutive days, the 'red alert' will be enforced. For the last two days, Delhi's positivity rate is standing at 4.59% and 6.46% respectively.  

Yellow Alert 

Last week, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) announced a 'yellow alert' in the state under which schools, colleges, cinemas, and gyms were closed with immediate effects. At present, a night curfew has already been imposed from 10 pm (earlier 11 pm) to 5 am in the national capital.
