The Delhi government is preparing to roll out the novel eBike Didi Yojana, which is a women-oriented mobility scheme designed with the objective of increasing the safety, cheapness, and sustainability of female tourists who want to explore the most outstanding architectural marvels of the capital. According to the latest news published on February 24, 2026, the scheme will have women riders to close the final mile of connectivity to tourist hotspots like Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Chandni Chowk, Humayun's tomb area, and the neighboring metro stations or bus stops on electric scooters or bikes.

The ongoing project under the consultation phase with interdepartmental contributions by tourism, transport, and civic organizations aims at solving some of the most recurrent issues, such as safety concerns of those who are traveling alone, traffic congestion in the heritage locations, and increased air pollution. It allows women to be empowered, offering a secure space since it includes only women passengers and female drivers (between the ages of 18 and 40, the residents of Delhi with valid driving licenses).

Authorities have suggested the possible collaboration with ride-hailing apps like Bharat Taxi to make the service operational, a pattern of private firms such as Ola and Rapido. The few chosen women will be trained on how to operate an e-bike, customer service, and safety procedures. These incentives can also take the form of subsidies on the e-bikes, as the EV Policy 2.0 also aims at increasing the incentives to women purchasers in Delhi.

This project will not only address the environmental target of supporting zero types of transport, but also it will provide livelihood to the local women, thereby making them self-sufficient. After its implementation in the following months, 'eBike Didi' may become the first of its kind in India when it comes to women tourists moving around Delhi on a bike, and this can be replicated to target other gender-based urban mobility options. Stakeholders rejoice that it is a victory of safety and sustainability as well as the economic inclusion of women into the tourism industry.
