Former Rajya Sabha MP and journalist Chandan Mitra died on Wednesday night, his child Kushan Mitra has told news organization ANI. "Since it is now out there; Dad died toward the end of last night. He had been languishing over some time," Kushan Mitra tweeted on Thursday morning. Chandan Mitra was 66.
Chandan Mitra had stopped the BJP in 2018 and tracked down his out with the Mamata Banerjee-drove Trinamool, a party he had once faulted for letting free a "rule of dread" in Bengal. He told NDTV at the time that he settled on the decision to work for the "advancement" of the state.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu called Chandan Mitra's death "a personal loss".
"Deeply saddened by the demise of former Rajya Sabha Member & veteran journalist, Shri Chandan Mitra. He was an erudite &highly respected journalist and parliamentarian. His death is a personal loss to me. Om Shanti!" tweeted Mr. Naidu.
Chandan Mitra was the managing director of Delhi-based The Pioneer till June this year.
Mitra is made due by his better half and two children.
Chandan Mitra started his political career in 2003 when he was designated as a Rajya Sabha part. In 2010, he was chosen for one more term in the Rajya Sabha as a BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh. In 2018, he joined the All Indi Trinamool Congress.
Chandan Mitra went to La Martuinuere school in Calcutta and then, at that point went to Delhi's St Stephen's. From that point, he went to Oxford University for his higher examinations.
In his famous journalistic career, he worked with The Statesman, The Times of India, The Sunday Observer, the Hindustan Times, prior to joining The Pioneer.
