A late-night motorcycle-borne shooting incident occurred on February 24, 2026, in Delhi, when unknown motorcycle-borne attackers at an incident near the Kashmere Gate fired at a vehicle carrying a lawyer, Deepak Khatri, who defends gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is jailed. The attack took place at approximately 10:15 pm near the Marghat Wale Hanuman Temple and Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), which is a bustling area in north Delhi.
As per Delhi police, the vehicle, a Maruti Ciaz sedan, was carrying five occupants, consisting of Khatri, a colleague of his (Sandeep, a worker in an NGO), the driver, and others, when three men on a bike trailed the car and fired at least four rounds to hit the car. Sandeep was one of the passengers and was shot in the shoulder and taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. Khatri and the others got away uninjured, but the back window broke through the bullets.
Police have a suspicious feeling that there may be the involvement of one of the rival gangs, as Bishnoi has had constant feuds in the criminal underworld. The CCTV footage in the location is also being investigated, with the Special Cell and Crime Branch taking the lead. It has registered a case on the basis of the complaint of Khatri under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act in the police station at Kashmere Gate.
The event underscores the emerging gang animosity bleeding into the capital, as Bishnoi has been handling high-profile cases and his syndicate has been available as a threat of late. Police are confirming the information and searching for the assailants who left the location at once. No one has been arrested as yet, but there are tighter security measures in the sensitive areas. This assault is one of the concerns about the directed violence against the associates of the notorious personalities in the congested streets of Delhi.
