Haryana Government Boosts Support for Journalists: Increased Insurance Coverage and Welfare Initiatives

In a significant move aimed at supporting journalists, the Haryana government has decided to increase the insurance premium coverage for journalists from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar made this announcement during a seminar on "Future and Challenges of Journalism" organized by the Haryana Union of Working Journalists (HUWJ) in Rohtak. This enhancement in insurance coverage is part of the state government's efforts to prioritize the welfare of journalists.

Government Initiatives for Journalists' Welfare

During the seminar, Chief Minister Khattar also highlighted several other initiatives designed to benefit journalists in Haryana. These initiatives include pension provisions for 176 journalists in the state, accreditation for 1262 journalists, and free travel up to 4,000 kilometers on roadways buses for accredited journalists. The government has linked the pensions of journalists to the DA (Dearness Allowance), further ensuring their financial security in their later years. These measures reflect the government's commitment to supporting the journalistic community and recognizing their vital role in society.

Positive Reception and Acknowledgment

The announcement received a positive response from the HUWJ, with Chief Ajay Malhotra and Executive President Manmohan Kathuria acknowledging and appreciating the Chief Minister's decision. The presence of prominent officials, including Energy and Prison Minister Ch Ranjit Singh, Lok Sabha MP Dr. Arvind Sharma, and state BJP vice president and former Minister Manish Grover, underscored the significance of this initiative in enhancing the welfare of journalists in Haryana.
