New Delhi, April 30, 2026: In a tragic accident, cousins 14-year-old Abhav Bhatia and 20-year-old Yagya Bhatia lost their lives in a suspected hit-and-run on Ashoka Road in central New Delhi's Parliament Street late on Monday night.
The cousins were on their way home to Ashok Vihar on the bike after watching the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 cricket match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Pillion-riding Abhav, a Class 10 student who would have celebrated his 15th birthday in three days, was the pillion passenger.
While riding, Abhav spoke to his father, Sumit Bhatia, around 10:30 pm, asking them to be home in 30 minutes. A few minutes later, the bike was reportedly struck from behind, and both boys were killed by the speeding truck. The call ended abruptly, and his father heard the accident.
A registered cricketer and BSc student, Yagya and his brother Abhav were killed instantly. A case has been registered with police, and they are looking for the fleeing trucker. The tragic incident has once again raised the issue of dangerous driving and hit-and-run accidents in Delhi.
