Early in the morning on Thursday, a privately owned bus of Harikrishna Travels crashed head-on into a gravel-laden tipper truck in the village of Rayavaram in the Markapuram Mandal, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh. The crash was a very high-impact event that caused a massive fire, sweeping through both vehicles and leaving players with minimal time to evacuate.

Reports indicate that at least 10 people died in the fire, while an estimated 20 others survived but sustained severe injuries. The bus, carrying about 40 passengers, was heading from Nirmal/Jagtial in Telangana to Vinjamuru/Podili/Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.

Both vehicles were totally gutted, and fire and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. The wounded have been carried to government hospitals in Markapuram, some of them in a very critical state. The former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said that he was appalled and has commissioned an inquiry into the matter. Law enforcement agencies are exploring probable causes, such as speed, visibility, and the condition of the roads at the turning point. This tragedy is indicative of prevailing fears of highway safety in the area.
