On Monday, a lawyer was shot dead inside the Shahjahanpur civil court, in a terrifying re-enactment of the Delhi court event. The lawyer, Bhupendra Pratap Singh, was shot and killed with a country-made handgun on the third level of the court.

"According to initial reports, it appears the man was alone. No other person was seen around him at the time of the incident. The forensic team is at work...Circumstances around killing unclear," said S Anand, Superintendent of Police, Shahjahanpur.

The motivation for the crime is unknown, however, local lawyers speculate that it may be related to rivalry in the lawyer's cases.

The forensics team has collected evidence from the scene of the incident, and the body has been transported for a post-mortem. More information is pending.

Meanwhile, Mayawati, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the leader of the BSP, described the lawyer's death as "extremely sad and disgusting."
