In 2025, India will assist in developing the second-largest concentration of leading AI authors and creators in the world, according to the report of the AI Index 2026 published by Stanford University on April 13. The country had 50,460 professionals because this was second only to the United States, which provided 220,520 and Germany, which provided 48,520.
This impressive talent pool underscores India’s growing prowess in artificial intelligence research and innovation. Nevertheless, there is another important problem outlined in the report; India experienced the biggest net outflow of AI talent in the world in 2025, which indicates brain drain in a specific direction (which is into the US).
Still, the high rate of Indian AI professionals is an indicator of a high contribution rate to academics and industry. The results are presented in the context of the emerging AI ecosystem of India, backed by the state programs and an exploding tech industry, which makes the country the center of AI in the global picture despite the talent mobility issues.
