After US President Donald Trump accepted a two-week ceasefire on April 7, 2026, upon the condition of a planned military strike being suspended, Iran has boastfully proclaimed victory; this victory will be celebrated when Tehran guarantees the total, immediate, and safe opening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, the United States has agreed to the main tenets of the 10-point peace plan of Iran, which forms the basis of negotiations. The development was a historic triumph of the Iranian people, according to the council, and a matter of historic defeat of the enemy, who have suffered a historical setback and have had to bear almost 40 days of conflict.

The foreign minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, ensured that the safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be synchronized with Iranian military men during the cease-fire. The process of negotiations between the two sides in Islamabad, Pakistan, is going to start in several days.

Both Washington and Tehran are portraying themselves as having won the deal, and oil prices are plunging all over the world with the news of the de-escalation.
