Tehran/Washington: The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on March 25, 2026, said that it had successfully launched an attack on a US F/A-18 fighter plane with a sophisticated air defense system and published a video purportedly depicting a plane being shot in the air over Chabahar in the southeast of the country.
The beams in the footage that was disseminated by Iran-linked governmental media such as PressTV seem to depict a flash of bright lights on a flying fighter jet. The IRGC also said it was evidence of a direct strike, and this was over previous statements of striking US planes.
Nonetheless, a very powerful denial was made by US Central Command (CENTCOM) soon. In one fact-check, CENTCOM wrote, "Iran has not shot down any U.S. fighter aircraft. The Pentagon revealed the Iranian claim as nothing but false, and there is no evidence of the loss of American airplanes.
The incident arrives when diplomatic talks on a cease-fire are going on, and both parties keep accusing each other in the growing conflict. Video verification by the independent sources is still unavailable, and the situation in the region is very tense.
