With the current US-Israel war against Iran still in week three, the military spokesman of Iran, Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi, made a threatening statement on Friday: “Henceforth, according to our intelligence on you, even parks, recreational facilities, and tourist spots the world over will not be a safe haven anymore.
Saying this, which aired on Iranian state TV, comes when the country is being devastated with airstrikes that have killed its military command, navy, and air force. Tehran maintains that it will never give up on production of missiles in spite of the attack and will not provide its enemies with any security feeling.
This rhetoric creates grumbles of asymmetric causal backlash, potentially using proxies against civilian targets much farther afield than the Middle East. It is a continuation of prior subversive statements such as revenge promises and comparison to the fate of previous regimes. As US reinforcements come into play in the region and the oil prices skyrocket, the warning increases tensions in the world, raising the issue of the safety of tourism and the possibility of the wider conflict spreading. None of the de-escalation comes into sight.
