On April 15, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah declined to cut an opening ribbon on a two-day Know Your Artisans handicrafts and handloom exhibition at Kashmir Haat in Srinagar.
And, when Abdullah had spotted the saffron and white and green stripes, he paused and said, "Ye nahi kaat sakte hum" (We cannot cut this). He and the deputy CM Surinder Choudhary thereupon respectfully unwrapped the ribbon, folded it, and returned it to the organizers with a request to preserve it securely and in good taste.
The video was shared online, and the gesture enjoyed universal acclaim because of the display of respect towards the national flag. The BJP, even, applauded the act, as they wanted action taken against the organizers who used the color tricolor as a ribbon. The event focused on encouraging local artisans in the campaign of the Soulful Kashmir.
