In a weird turn of events that can only be written as a spy movie, a 30-year-old doctor by the name of Gautham Reddy was apprehended by Hyderabad traffic police during a routine drunken driving inspection at a fancy Jubilee Hills in the late hours of the April 10-11 night.
When he was requested to take a breathalyzer test, the apparent drunk driver supposedly used a remote-controllable system that aided in altering the number plate of the BMW by simply flipping the numbers of Telangana TS9FQ9999 to that of Delhi DL6CM7097 in a few seconds.
The electric license plate flipper was a high-tech device, which was found accidentally one day later in the police station when one of the constables, who was attempting to open the trunk, pressed a button close to the driver's seat. It is suspected that the modification was put in place to avoid e-challans, road tax, or traffic enforcement since the luxury vehicle was purchased in Delhi without re-registration in Telangana.
This physician is charged with the various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act for drunk driving and using illegal car modifications. The BMW has been impounded, and the illegal gadget is being pursued with an additional exploration in India, which has allegedly been the first of its kind reported.
