On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 154th birth anniversary, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi gathered at Rajghat in New Delhi to pay their respects to the Father of the Nation. Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi also commemorated the 119th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at the Vijay Ghat memorial in the national capital. He praised Shastri's unwavering commitment to India's progress and leadership during challenging times. Shastri's iconic call for 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' and his dedication to the nation remain an inspiration to generations. Modi expressed the hope that India would continue to work towards realizing Shastri's vision for a strong nation.
Political Leaders and Dignitaries Pay Homage
Other political leaders and dignitaries also paid their respects to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti. Congress National President and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, offered tributes at Rajghat, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Delhi Lieutenant Governor LG Saxena paid their respects to the Mahatma at the same venue. Gandhi's teachings and impact on global peace were acknowledged by leaders from various political backgrounds.
