Police claimed that the accused, Jeeshan, lured his victim, the child, outside her home on April 11, on the pretext that he wanted to buy her toffees and therefore took her to his room, where he allegedly raped her before strangling her to death.

The police identified the accused as Mohammad Jasim alias Chhotu, who had a reward of Rs 50,000 declared on him. The incident happened in the Tila Mod police station jurisdiction, where a SWAT unit entered into the operation with the accused under the leadership of ADCP Crime Piyush Singh and ACP Crime.

The crime branch SWAT, according to the police, responded based on the particular intelligence regarding the movements of the suspect. He was arrested as he was riding a motorcycle with two of his associates. The men, who opened fire with country-made pistols, were being signaled to halt. UP Police fired back in self-defense and hid themselves behind cars.

The defendant was struck in the knees and was having treatment in the hospital, where he died. Two of them got away during the night. Asianet Newsable: Two police constables were injured during the exchange of fire, wherein they are reported to be in a stable state.

The violent rape and killing of the child had inflicted tremendous pain in the region, with people insisting (and almost screaming) that something should be done to the offender. The fact that the accused was a relative of the victim, an uncle, meant that the crime was even more difficult to understand to many in Ghaziabad.

The incident was just after the Supreme Court lamented the way Ghaziabad police and the local hospitals treated another rape-murder case and termed their actions nonchalant, inhuman, and insensitive.
