On Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lucky Hotel Junction, just before Bandra West on SV Road, a large 24-inch drinking water pipeline exploded, throwing up chaotic scenes. The break, which was said to have resulted from a breakdown in the collar joint, caused huge water gushing, which resulted in a serious waterlogging that resulted in traffic at a complete standstill.
On social media, there are viral videos depicting the road turned into a virtual stream with people struggling to keep afloat in water that was knee-deep and children being seen splashing and enjoying the flooded zone. The accident created a big dent on the road surface and wastage of lakhs of liters of drinking water that is very valuable.
BMC officials hurried to the scene to contain the leak and start repairing it. It is not the first instance the stretch has suffered such problems, and this begs serious questions on the subject of the aging water infrastructure in the city. On the go, commuters endured a lot of time wastage as traffic was diverted, contributing to the daily misfortunes of the notorious Mumbai traffic jams. The videos have led to massive outrages and memes across the web.
