In a major relief for lakhs of medical aspirants, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the NEET UG 2026 re-examination will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This comes after the original exam conducted on May 3 was cancelled on May 12 due to serious paper leak allegations.
The decision, taken with the approval of the government of India, aims to restore fairness and transparency. Over 22.79 lakh candidates registered for the exam and will appear again. The re-test will be conducted offline from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. Candidates can update their exam city preferences by May 21 on the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. No additional fee is required, and original application fees will be refunded where applicable. Fresh admit cards will be issued closer to the date.
The cancellation followed a CBI probe into the leak masterminded by a Pune chemistry professor who allegedly dictated questions during secret coaching sessions. The scandal triggered nationwide protests and demands for reforms. The union education minister has promised stricter security, including biometrics and a possible shift to computer-based testing from 2027.
Students now have extra preparation time amid the ongoing heatwave. Results are expected shortly after the re-exam. Aspirants are advised to follow only official NTA updates and ignore rumors. This re-exam is crucial for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses across India.
