To enhance water supply in South Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is engaged in the infrastructure development project in the Sewri area. Under this project, two butterfly valves of 1500 mm diameter are to be installed on the main pipeline of the Bhandarwada Hill Reservoir, which will commence at 10 AM on April 22 and will end at 4 AM on April 23—a total of 18 hours.
The areas affected on April 22 were:
Water supply will continue to be suspended in areas of A Ward such as Ramgad slum, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), St. George Hospital, RBI, and Naval Dockyard areas. There will be a total shutdown of the Mumbai Port area and Central and Harbour Railway supply lines as well.
Affected Areas April 23:
Dongri, Masjid Bunder, Mohammed Ali Road, Bora Bazaar Street, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road, Nagpada, Agripada, Byculla, Sewri, Wadala East, Lalbaug, Parel, Dadar, and Hindmata will either be cut off from water or supplied with low-pressure water.
Low Pressure:
Its main victims will be several big hospitals such as Kasturba, Nair, JJ, KEM, Tata, Jerbai Wadia, and MGM hospitals, where the water will be supplied at low pressure during the shutdown period.
BMC Advisory:
The BMC has recommended those in the affected regions save enough water in advance and use it sparingly and boil and filter drinking water four or five days subsequent to restoring supply.
