Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the much-awaited 213-km Delhi-Dehradun Expressway (also known as the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor) on April 14, 2026. Located in North India, the six-lane access-controlled greenfield highway is an infrastructural project that was built at a cost of about 12000 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

The expressway begins near Akshardham, Delhi, and traverses Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, and Dehradun in Uttarakhand. It will reduce significantly the time spent traveling since it is now 5-6 hours to about 2-2.5 hours, thereby alleviating traffic jams using the old NH-58 road.

The main characteristics are smart traffic management systems, Fastag integration, and a central wild animal corridor in high-level areas to facilitate safe transportation of wildlife. In the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami were present.

The project will stimulate tourism to the hill stations such as Mussoorie, improve trade and economic activities, and enhance the overall connectivity between the national capital and Uttarakhand.
