Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the Indians to support the country's energy security in the wake of the current crisis in West Asia. He cautioned citizens to be extremely prudent while using petrol, diesel, and cooking gas in his recent message amid global turmoil in oil supplies.
Some of the key tips that PM Modi gave were the following:
- Use carpools, public transportation, and the metro.
- Activate “work from home” (WFH) and Virtual Meetings (VM), just as during COVID.
- Do not travel abroad for non-essential reasons for at least one year. Do not travel abroad unless essential, but prefer to travel domestically.
- Use foreign exchange reserves for delayed transactions on gold and curtail some of the luxuries.
- Encourage the use of electric vehicles and energy-saving behaviors.
The Prime Minister pointed out that any individual efforts that are small and that help cut down on the dependence on imported fuel will save the precious foreign reserve and also minimize the economic impact of the war on India. He appealed for “Nation First” spirit and collective responsibility during challenging times.
As tensions in West Asia pose a threat to energy chains globally, this message comes across. Responsible citizenry is encouraged to take these steps, and government is encouraged to work toward energy independence over the long term.
