Indian oil marketing companies have increased premium variants of petrol such as XP95, HPCL Power, and BPCL Speed of IOCL, HPCL, and BPCL by 2.09 to 2.35 per liter effective March 20, 2026, in an unprecedented development in the Middle East involving the US and Israel and Iran fighting over oil prices and pushing them higher. This is the first significant change of premium fuels in years as OMCs absorb energy shocks around the globe without necessarily passing complete costs to ordinary fuels.
In major metros, which include Delhi (94.77/liter), Mumbai (103.54/liter), Kolkata (105.45/liter), Chennai (100.84/liter), Bengaluru (102.96/liter), and Hyderabad (107.50/liter), regular retail petrol remains constant. Also, diesel rates are stable, e.g., ₹87.67/liter in Delhi and ₹90.03/liter in Mumbai.
In Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, premium examples would go after an increase to ₹101.89/liter, 112.53/liter, and 108.90/liter. Analysts observe that this selective increase cushions ordinary consumers and responds to OMC margin pressures of skyrocketing international oil benchmarks. Monitor the possible wider revisions in case of any general geopolitical problems.
