In a tragic accident that happened in Ghaziabad, Ikra, 19, died after doing 70 km/h on the Yamaha R15 sports bike she was on when it crashed into a road divider on NH-9 in the vicinity of Wave City/IMS College. Her 20-year-old friend, Hashim, who was pillion riding and filming a videocassette, escaped and is undergoing treatment for injuries.
The phone that was found by the police contained footage of the moments that preceded the crash with speeds of up to 70-80 km/h, and no helmet was found on either party. Ikra, a man who lived in Pasonda, Sahibabad, and wanted to join the Delhi Police, had apparently gone out to the market. The motorbike was that of Hashim.
The crash has led to outrage due to the dangerous behavior of reckless riders and the hazardous nature of shooting videos of stunts on social media. The police are investigating, and the accident is a dark reminder of road safety fundamentals—place your helmet on your head and, more importantly, be like Mike—do not take chances.
