On the 16th of February, 2026, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was caught rushing to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, having been informed that his father, long-time screenwriter Salim Khan, was in the ICU in critical condition. The 87-year old screenwriter and father of the Khan three (Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail) was reportedly victimized by a sudden health crisis, which was attributed to age-related complications and breathing problems.

Eyewitnesses stated that at approximately 11.30 PM IST, Salman showed up at the hospital in his black Range Rover clearly concerned, which was surrounded by close aides. He was also observed to enter via a back door so as to escape media hyenas. Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan also arrived soon after and family members kept their profile very low in the hospital.

One of the close associates of the family informed the reporters outside Lilavati: The health of Salim saab got worse disputedly in the evening. He complained of the shortness of breath and the chest pains. He was taken to the ICU under observation and monitoring of doctors. His family is around and Salman had to cancel all his engagements to attend to his father.

Salim Khan, half of the legendary Salim-Javed who is the producer of some of the classic movies such as Sholay, Deewaar, Zanjeer and Don, has been a rather low profile in recent years. His age, his past minor cardiac problems had put him under frequent medical examinations.

The Khan family has not yet issued any official statement as of February 17 morning, however, sources reveal that Salim Khan is in a stable state under intensive care and under 24-hour surveillance. Medical practitioners are said to be conducting tests on what the exact cause may be, maybe pneumonia, heart arrhythmia or an elderly breathing difficulty.

Social media was full of prayers and support messages by fans and industry colleagues. Actor Riteish Deshmukh wrote on his twitter page: "I hope that Salim uncle will recover soon. Salman bhai and family--remain strong." Director Karan Johar also shared the post: I wish to send my love and strength to the rest of the Khan family. Get well soon, Salim saab."

The news has been a shocking one to Bollywood with people recalling the role that Salim Khan played in Indian cinema. Salman, who has never been close to his father and credits him with his values and work ethic, is supposed to stay at the hospital until Salim gets better.

The family has so far asked the fans to provide them with privacy and to pray as opposed to speculating. The hospital or the family representatives will be waiting on updates.
