A New York Times report of March 15-16, 2026, indicates that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), has been privately communicating on a regular basis with the US President, Donald Trump, urging him to continue striking the Iranians hard, as the war between the United States of America and Israel and Iran spins into the third week. With references to policymakers at the White House and people who were close to the talks, the report states that the recommendation of MBS is similar to the renowned statement of the late Saudi King Abdullah, who suggested taking the head of the snake bearing Iran.
Trump has also maintained frequent telephone contacts with Arab regimes, and off the sporadic bloody violence in the region, which has taken the lives of more than 2,100 people, the Saudi prince has become an ardent proponent of prolonged military action against Tehran. This occurs even with Saudi Arabia practicing diplomacy openly in certain areas. The disclosures point to the old hatred between Riyadh and Iran and its close correlation with the US and Israeli interests to rein in the influence of Tehran. The report has not been bestowed by Saudi officials publicly, but it highlights the changes in the dynamic in the contentious Middle East conflict.
