In a chilling case that has rattled the state of Uttar Pradesh, a young man aged 21 years is accused of killing his father and depositing the corpse in a blue plastic drum after a heated argument with his father over not studying the NEET writ. The crime was initially discovered on February 24, 2026, in a residential locality of the district of Lakhimpur Kheri, when the police got a tip-off from neighborhood residents about a foul smell coming out of the family house.
The accused, Rohit Verma, according to the police, engaged in an ugly fight with his father, who was a local shopkeeper, who kept urging him to concentrate on preparation for the medical entrance examination. Rohit suddenly is said to have assaulted his father with a heavy object, resulting in his death in a rage. What the son did to conceal the killing was to wrap the body with plastic wrappers and put it into a big blue drum that holds water, which is normally used for storing water in a corner of the house.
The body was found two days later, and the odor could not be taken. The decomposed remains were recovered by the forensic teams, and post-mortem diagnosis indicated death necessarily through blunt force trauma to the head. Rohit was apprehended on the spot; he was allegedly booked after he confessed in the preliminary investigations, citing the frustrating pressure of being constantly scolded and pressured to study.
The case has revived the discussion regarding the harmful effects of stress during competitive exams, pressure on parents, and neglect of mental health in young people who are getting ready to take high-stakes exams such as NEET. Police detectives are searching for possible accomplices and motives, and the family is still shocked. However, the parents and students have been encouraged to use counseling in response to the increasing cases of academic pressure in India. This tragic event acts as a sad warning of how stress out of control may end up in irredeemable violence.
