ISIS Supporters Welcome Back Brides Returning from Melbourne Airport and Abuse Female Journalist
On 8th May 2026, at Melbourne Airport, the world witnessed a scene of chaos and unease as Australian women were brought back from the ISIS (also known as ISIS brides) detention camps in Syria. Members of a support group confronted journalists who were asking questions of arrivals such as Zahra Ahmad, who is the widow of an ISIS recruiter.
One of his supporters shouted in an angry manner at a woman journalist, "Shut the f***," and another journalist claimed she was punched in the stomach. The skirmishes have angered the nation about security, integration, and repatriations of people alleged to have links with ISIS.
Upon arrival of several of the women and families back in the country, they were arrested on terror and slave charges. The events have fueled discussion on issues of vulnerability and whether Australia's approach to the sensitive repatriations from Al-Roj camp was appropriate when it comes to reintegrating former ISIS affiliates.
Footage from the airport scene has been viewed thousands of times and even spread throughout the country, raising tensions and worries about the spread of extreme ideologies in Australia.
